Daniel Booth
Where do I begin? First off my name is Daniel Booth and in the remaining period of my second year whilst I was an Exercise Science student at Liverpool John Moore’s University in England, I was unaware what my summer would consist off. It was only after receiving a letter from my university about an upcoming presentation from the Yummy Jobs company that started the planning for what was sure to be possibly one of the most awesome summer experiences of my life. Within the first 5 minutes of the presentation, I was determined to pass all the interviews required to join the many others who would go to work for one of the best worldwide companies ever. From the application process through out to arriving at my destination including the series of interviews, Yummy Jobs helped me every step of the way, there services, advice and guidance showed me the door and with their help at my disposal, I prepared and passed every interview, completed all the steps and a few months later I was at the airport thinking to myself “how quick the process had taken and now that I was ready to embark on the most exciting experience of my life” along with fellow Disney employees who yet again Yummy Jobs had facilitated the introduction between, throughout their email contacts and the use of face book.
Within the first week of arriving in Orlando/Florida, I had completed the moving in process, Traditions class, soon after I found out my role would be an Outdoor food cast member at Hollywood Studios, coincidently my favourite out of the four parks. After 4 days of training, I was set in full costume and ready to make the Disney dream real for thousands of guests who would come from all parts of the globe to share the magic that is Disney. My role consisted of selling quick types of food/beverage to the guests whilst working with the 4 Disney basics:
1. Stay In character and play my part.
2. Go above and beyond.
3. Be respectful to all guests including children.
4. Project a positive image and energy.
Other roles including cleaning and maintenance of my workspace either cart or wagon or cabin, stocking and restocking of area, cash handling and correct serving of alcohol to guests of the illegal age. I consistently worked my best to make this role a memory I would look back on in ten years and say changed my life, in fact the whole experience including the role, the friends and Disney family I made and overall the chance to work abroad and for one of the hardest but amazing companies in the world. I felt like I had matured over the 3 months, even though I was a big child at heart, my new found maturity allowed me to complete the program and install in me, life values which I would carry on to the future. I thank not just Yummy Jobs but Disney for giving me these values that will prepare me for later life especially in my future career which has changed to the Hospitality industry because of the work I achieved for Disney. My best moment and a story about my time working for Disney? Hard to say really as I feel that the whole time I spent there was entirely my best moment, one of my main memories whilst working on at Churro cart. A lady and her daughter came to my cart to purchase a churro (cinnamon sugar covered stick) she was wearing a princess crown and I asked “was it a special day”, she and her mum replied that it was there last day of the holiday and they wanted to splash out also her mum said that to make her daughters last day really special, she had bought her the princess crown. So I asked what her favourite ice cream was and she replied Itzakadoozie (ice lolly). So I gave her a magical moment by letting her have it for free and they replied “you just made my last day very special” they both thanked me and asked for my name, even though I had the wrong name tag on at the time we laughed about that they got my real name and knew that there most recent trip to Hollywood Studios was magical in so many ways including what I had done for them. This was one of my best moments whilst working at Hollywood studios because I was able to share the magic with the guests which is entirely what working at Disney was about, making Walt Disney World the most magical place on earth and I achieved it for them.
Overall I would definitely recommend this experience to everyone looking for the perfect summer work scheme ever. This truly did change me and now that I have completed working over the summer for Disney my next goal is to apply for the Cultural Representative Experience which for now will have to remain my top priority and if I get accepted another testimonial will be on the way shortly after. In regards to Yummy Jobs, I would definitely recommend there company as a vehicle into world of endless potential that is Walt Disney World. Thank you for reading and I hope you to will apply and see what Disney has to offer for you.
