I first came in contact with volunteer work in 2006.
My first trip was to Kenya where I had to research and write a report about life in a developing country.
I spent a lot of time speaking to the people and I also visited the largest slum in East Africa.
It is difficult to describe the feelings you experience - all the children want to hold on to you and after a few minutes I had a child on every finger!
Those are the kinds of moments that really give you goose bumps all over your body!
Once you have spent just a few days in beautiful Africa, you feel at home and everything is comfortable. It's great to see the sun rise and hear the sounds that you can usually only dream about.
Once, I was in a clothing shop, the boy who was in the shop had just finished his school and after a short conversation about his shop I knew that the children in Africa are so driven to go to school, everyone is so diligent and they strive to achieve more than a life in the slums.
After my trip to Kenya, I went to Ghana and Ethiopia where I was responsible for a group of Dutch volunteers. This was like running a business in another country because there was so much to control and everything had to be correct in terms of planning, finance, transport which could be challenging when dealing with another culture.
I am greatly changed by my experiences as a volunteer, and once I went back to the Netherlands, I noticed that the way I talk, think, sell and especially how I promote myself is of a much higher level than my peers.
The experience has also greatly improved my CV and prospective employers recognise the value of the knowledge and experiences I gained.
Now Yummy Jobs is offering everyone this great opportunity to consider this kind of great experience abroad, I would like to encourage everyone to seize this chance. This will improve your world, you get a great experience that you take for your whole life and no matter where you are or which kind of job you want in the future you will be better than any other with an experience like this!!
