Remember to Pack your Toothbrush!
It's hard to pack your whole life into 2 suitcases; let us help you take the stress out of preparing for your yummy adventure with these simple tips!
DO’s and Don’t’s of the preparing for the flight:
DO always keep in mind weight and size limits of your suitcases, as well as understanding what is permitted/prohibited on the flight.
DON’T overfill suitcases, as the strain can cause tearing during the handling process.
DO use a sturdy suitcase that is able to withstand multiple handling and droppings by airport/transport staff.
DO properly label all suitcases and carry on bags with your new US address.
DO make at least 2 copies all of your documents, 1 for you to take and one to leave with a trusted person at home. Pack all essential items/documents in your carry on.
DO call your bank and inform them of your travel to the US to be sure your credit/debit cards will work abroad and find out if there are any fees for using your cards in the US. Also take some local currency with you incase problems with an ATM or card occurs.
DON’T rely on information you have heard from others. All airline companies vary, so if you have questions, you should contact your airline yourself.
DON’T run late on your departure day. Arrive at the airport at least 2/3 hours before. It is always better to be early, than to potentially miss your flight.
Make sure your Carry on Baggage is as prepared as you are with this handy Checklist!
♦ Travel Itinerary and Tickets
♦ Passport
♦ Visa paperwork
♦ Copy of Passport and Visa paperwork
♦ Copy of Credit/Debit Cards
♦ Local Currency
♦ Phone number and Address of your accommodation
♦ Phone number of your friends and family of your home country
♦ Valuable/Irreplaceable items including: jewelry, cameras, laptops
♦ 1 outfit (socks, underwear, shirt, and jeans) in case of delays or lost luggage
♦ Liquids – check out the latest regulations
♦ Medication that may need to be taken during the flight and/or layovers
♦ Special needs items such as glasses, contacts, retainers
What to pack…..
♦ Pictures of friends and family
♦ Autumn/Winter clothing- Even if you are working in a hot location, in the US for example, air conditioning is a much loved way of life and you will need some jumpers, jackets and cardigans to keep you warm!
♦ Professional/ Formal Attire- You never know when you may need to dress with a professional or formal look.
♦ At least one towel- This will get you through your first days until you can go shopping.
♦ Battery operated alarm clocks- to ensure that your device works no matter what the voltage levels are.
….and what NOT to pack:
♦ To much clothing- A general room of thumb is to pack everything you think you will need and then take out 1/3 of it. You are bound to pick up souvenirs and clothing and by over packing in the beginning you may find yourself accruing a fee to ship items home.
♦ Breakables- Items that could break in the transit process should be avoided all together, or is absolutely necessary pack breakables in your carry on baggage.
♦ Questionable customs items- Countries have different laws about what can and can’t be brought into the country. Do refer to local customs laws to verify what items are prohibited to avoid hassle at immigration.
With the above tips and suggestions, packing for your new adventure will be just as fun as the adventure itself!
