Cultural Exchange Program Summer 2018

Applications for the Cultural Exchange Program with Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort for summer 2017 are now closed. Applications will reopen for summer 2018 during July 2017.

The Cultural Exchange Program at Hilton Head provides international students the opportunity to spend their summer break working at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort on the Atlantic Coast in sunny South Carolina. Participants will have the opportunity to interact and share their culture with Guests from the United States as well as all over the world, learn important business philosophies and make lifelong friends.

Participants will work in a Quick Service Food and Beverage position at one of several locations across the resort. Participants will receive a wage of $11.20 USD per hour and will be guarenteed a minimum of 32 hours per week. 

As a QSR Cast Member, you will assist in the preparation and cooking of Guest meals. Cast Members will be working with fryers, grills, stoves, as well as slicing, grinding, and mixing equipment. General duties may include deep frying, cooking on a grill and preparing mixes, peeling and dicing vegetables, sandwich and salad preparation, and sauté. Kitchen sanitation is very important, cleaning chemicals will be provided. It may at times also include serving alcoholic beverages. Our QSR team is also responsible for various special events that take place on the resort. This may include the set-up and tear down of grills, tables, chairs, and other items. Prepare for a lot of guest interaction and high temperatures during the summer months!

In addition to the valuable skills gained through day-to-day responsibilities of their job, participants may have the opportunity to network with Disney leaders and participate in special Cast Member activities while gaining real-world experience with one of the most admired entertainment companies in the world.

Participants in this program will work on a J-1 Summer Work - Travel Visa.  The Cultural Exchange Program is, at maximum, a four-month program, and candidates must exit the United States and return to their home country upon completion of the program.

To participate on the Cultural Exchange Program, participants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Able to speak fluent English
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of applying
  • A student enrolled in an accredited, degree-issuing college or university, studying full-time towards an undergraduate degree
  • About to enter second year of study or above to apply for the program. Students can also participate in the program immediately following their final year of study

One of the most unique aspects of Disney International Programs is just how international they really are. Every day, you'll have the experience of living and working with cast members from all over the world. Participants on this program will live in a nearby resort, approximately 2 kilometers away from Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.

  • The unit will be shared by six International Cultural Exchange Program Cast Members
  • The rate of housing will be $120 USD per week (payroll deducted). A $300.00 USD deposit is required upon arrival at Hilton Head Island, which will be refunded, less $75 for cleaning the apartment within 30 days of your departure.
  • Transportation to and from work will be provided.
  • There is no public transportation on the island – taxis are available at your cost and DHHIR can provide a bicycle to use during your program
  • Participants will fly into Savannah Hilton Head International Airport (Airport Code SAV) and will be provided with transportation to Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.

Application Dates

  • Applications for the Cultural Exchange Program with Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort for Summer 2017 are now closed, and will re-open for Summer 2018 during July 2017.
  • Applicants are required to be available for the full program dates in order to be considered. The program runs from June - September each year (specific dates to be confirmed).

Interviewing Process

  • Pre-screen interviews with the Yummy Jobs Team take place during October each year for positions commencing the following summer. Applicants will be required to attend an interview with the Yummy Jobs Team via Skype.
  • Final interviews with The Walt Disney World Resort take place during November each year in London.

Participants on the Cultural Exchange Program will be required to submit the following fees that have been broken down into pre-arrival and post-arrival.  Please note all fees are subject to change and may change without notice:

Pre-Arrival Fees

  • Criminal Background Check Fee = £80.00 GBP
  • Disney Program Assessment Fee = $154.50 USD
  • U.S. Embassy Appointment Fee = $160.00 USD
  • U.S. SEVIS Fee = $35.00 USD
  • Courier delivery of passport = Free to £30.00 GBP
  • Return flight to the United States = Varies
  • Medical Insurance = $70.00 USD per month (approximately) - must be paid in one lump sum for the duration of your program dates

Post-Arrival Fees

  • Housing Deposit upon arrival = $300.00 USD - which will be refunded (within 30 days of your departure) less $75.00 USD for cleaning the apartment
  • Additional supporting funds between $350.00 to $750.00 USD are recommended

To participate in the Cultural Exchange Program, you must be:

  • Able to speak fluent English
  • At least 18 years of age at the time of application
  • A student enrolled in an accredited, degree-issuing college or university; and returning to school for at least one term following the program; students can also participate in the program immediately following their final year of study.
  • Participants must also have completed at least one academic year of degree study prior to applying for the program
  • Applicants must be currently studying in the UK or Ireland to apply through Yummy Jobs
