Summer has arrived!
June is always a very exciting month for us here at YJ: it sees hundreds of students begin their Summer Job in the USA on one of our various J1 Cultural Exchange Programs! Whether that be in Florida, Rhode Island, or even over in California, we have witnessed many excited students embarking on their next adventure over the past few weeks, all hoping to make memories and experiences that will last a lifetime!
Luke and Natalie from the YJ team have been in Orlando, Florida, assisting with the arrivals for our Loews Hotels at the Universal Orlando Resort™ Program. For anyone who is unfamiliar, this program allows students from the U.K the opportunity to spend their summer break working at one of the five spectacular Loews Hotels, located on-site at the Universal Orlando Resort™. This year we have 31 participants, who will be working across Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort.
The first week has been filled with several program/company orientations and inductions, as well as a Pizza Pool Party (with less of the pool thanks to those Orlando PM storms!) However, our participants have managed to get some free time to explore their new home for the summer! We caught up with a few of them to find out what they were most excited about over the coming months:
Moray (Lifeguard at Hard Rock Hotel) - “The best thing so far has been meeting loads of new people from different places! I’m excited to start my new job at Hard Rock and hopefully see some American sports and things I wouldn’t be able to see back in Scotland!”
Charley (Food and Beverage at Cabana Bay) - “My favourite thing since arriving in the States has been getting my Disney Annual Pass and visiting the parks! I am most looking forward to experiencing different American cultures which I’ve never experienced whilst on holiday before.”
Sophie (Room Service at Hard Rock Hotel) – “Since I have arrived in the States I’ve enjoyed getting back in contact and seeing friends from last year. Plus going to the Disney Parks with new friends from this year. I am looking forward to starting work and getting my Universal Orlando Resort Pass to start enjoying the parks with my roommates, also visiting Universal’s Volcano Bay!"
Aoife (Food and Beverage at Hard Rock Hotel) - “I have loved seeing the fireworks at Disney’s Magic Kingdom – it was absolutely amazing, I cried so much! I am excited to see what else is in Orlando other than just the parks.”
