SCICo’s expedition operator also boasts a menu of over 25 outdoor adventures designed to introduce visitors to the island’s rich history, wildlife and backcountry, including expeditions and tours such as the Zip Line Eco Tour, Eco Hummer Tour, Dolphin Quest, Sea Trek and many others. Eligibility Requirements for J-1 Interns

In order to qualify for this particular designation of the J-1 visa you must be:

  • A foreign national who is currently enrolled full-time in a degree or certificate granting post secondary academic institution outside the United States and should be pursuing studies in the Hospitality or Tourism sector.  


  • Graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months prior to your exchange visitor program start date
  • All participants must possess sufficient proficiency in English to participate on the program


Eligibility Requirements for J-1 Trainees

In order to qualify for this particular designation of the J-1 visa you must be:

  • A foreign national who has either a relevant degree or professional certificate from a foreign post-secondary academic institution and at least one year of prior related work experience in your occupational field.  This experience must have been acquired outside of the United States
  • The degree/ professional certificate must be in the field of Tourism, Hospitality, Events Management or Business Studies


  • Five years of work experience in your occupational field acquired outside the United States
  • All participants must possess sufficient proficiency in English to participate on the program


The Santa Catalina Island Company J-1 Intern and Training Program provides university students and young professionals with the opportunity to train in the United States for a period of up to 12 months. The program provides on-the-job training exposure in the role of Hospitality Management allowing you to explore and train in multiple areas within this role. 

Participants on the Santa Catalina Island International program will be able to experience unique cultural exchange activities.  As part of your program the SCICo Team will schedule many employee outings during your program.  From trips to nearby Los Angeles to visits to Disneyland Resort, the SCICo Team will ensure you experience the American culture through a mixture of activites that enhance your international experience.

  • Housing is included and on site, you will share a bedroom and the housing is provided to you at no cost

Participants on the Santa Catalina Island Company International Program will be required to submit the following fees:

Program Fees:

  • 12 Month Full Placement Program Fee inclusive of visa sponsorship, medical insurance and support = £2,500.GBP

Additional Fees:

  • Criminal Background Check Fee = £85.00 GBP
  • U.S. Embassy Appointment Fee = $160.00 USD
  • U.S. SEVIS Fee = $190.00 USD
  • Courier delivery of passport = Free to £30.00 GBP
  • Return flight to the United States = Varies

Post-Arrival Fees:

  • Additional supporting funds between $350.00 USD to $750.00 USD are recommended
